Laura Ross
About me
I’m a warm, compassionate and insightful counsellor who understands how daunting it can be to start the process of talking therapy. My hope is that by offering you a space built on empathy, trust and non-judgment, you will feel safe enough to explore whatever is on your mind. A chance to unravel the parts of you that have perhaps never been truly seen or heard. Those that we can sometimes find the most uncomfortable, challenging or impenetrable to explore, without fear of rejection.
At times, life can be unpredictable and bring about moments of crisis, when our world is rocked and the way ahead is hard to navigate. You may feel lost and overwhelmed, stuck in a rut, confused about your own identity, suffocated by grief, weighed down by the relentlessness of anxiety or depression.
Whatever it is that brings you to counselling, I don’t want to ‘fix’ or ‘cure’ you, as I don’t believe you’re broken. I believe that underneath the possible conflict, confusion, overwhelm or pain you may be experiencing, there is the opportunity for healing and change to occur. I want to work collaboratively to help you reach a place of greater understanding, self-compassion and self-acceptance of who you are and your place in the world.
My approach
I’m a fully qualified, person-centred therapist and respect your inherent ability to steer the direction and pace of our sessions. At times I may gently challenge or reframe your thinking, if I think it’s helpful, but this will always be approached with empathy and acceptance. I value the therapeutic relationship shared between us and strongly believe it can be transformative. Being acknowledged and validated for your uniqueness, is instrumental to giving you the opportunity to make meaning and fulfil your potential.
I have an appreciation for how unique and diverse people’s lives are and will be alongside you to listen without judgment. I have a greater understanding of:
- Anxiety
- Bereavement
- Bullying
- Depression
- Family conflict
- Health anxiety
- Identity issues
- Living with neurodiversity
- Loneliness
- Miscarriage
- Parenthood
- Pregnancy and fertility
- Relationships
- Self-esteem and self-confidence
- Stress
