Riley May

Riley is a member of The Pilates Foundation where she trained for two years on the traditional Pilates Method and contraindications. The Foundation trains teachers to the highest standard and approaches the Pilates Method “as a full body of work and not as a quick fix set of exercises to be learned and taught by rote.”

Riley decided to train through the Foundation after suffering from chronic back pain during her teenage years. Through her training she discovered the underlying cause of her condition to be due to Joint Hypermobility Syndrome. This condition and its prolific symptoms is a prime example of where Pilates should be implemented. Her goal to alleviate pain physically rather than medically led her to train under a teaching provider that specialised in rehabilitative movement therapy.

“I enjoyed all aspects of the session, and especially that the classes were tailored to

me and my body. I learnt a lot about myself.”

Pilates apparatus classes are ideal for those looking for a more private and intuitive based exercise programme. Each class is moulded and developed upon the body presented, so that different postural demands can be met. Attending a Pilates class alongside any other sporting activity is highly recommended. It is a great way to discover and fine tune any muscular imbalances that may be causing injury or hindering your performance. Riley is a calm and gentle teacher who will take time to listen to your experience and carve out an appropriate lesson plan. She enjoys teaching through imagery, allowing you to be present within the class and focus on getting the most out of each session.

Exercises will be carried out on the following apparatus: Reformers, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder barrel, Small barrels and complementary equipment. The apparatus works by providing different levels of spring resistance to help strengthen and support your joints. Clients will be able to improve flexibility by performing exercises within a safe and controlled range to avoid over stressing their joints. The Pilates Method is a process of retraining the body to move with control, balance and co-ordination to transition these principles into your everyday life.
